Briede, Aleksandraianovna 

Born July 12(25), 1901, in Liepaja. Soviet sculptor. People’s Artist of the Latvian SSR (1955) and corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1958).

Briede studied with K. Ronchevskii at the Riga Academy of Arts from 1923 to 1931. Her work includes statues, tombstones, portraits, genre scenes, and small porcelain objects. She has done The Young Sculptor (bronze, 1947), Peace (marble, 1960), and Drizzle (granite, 1969), all of which are in the Art Museum of the Latvian SSR in Riga. Her other works include May There Always Be Sunshine (granite, 1963), Ancite the Kolkhoz Worker (bronze, 1965), My Land(aluminum, 1967), and Lenin (granite, 1969). Briede was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Badge of Honor.
