Brodskii, Aleksandr Il’ich
Born June 7 (19), 1895, in Ekaterinoslav, now Dnepropetrovsk; died Aug. 21, 1969, in Kiev. Soviet physical chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1943) and academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1939). Hero of Socialist Labor (1969). Brodskii investigated the influence of solvents on chemical equilibrium, electrode potentials, and optical and other properties of solutions. He studied the mechanism of chemical reactions as well as the structures and conversions of free radicals. He was the author of a textbook of physical chemistry for institutions of higher learning and of monographs on the theory of electrolytes and the chemistry of isotopes. A recipient of the State Prize of the USSR in 1946, he was awarded the Order of Lenin and other orders. WORKSIssledovaniia po termodinamike i electrokhimii rastvorov.
