Brodziński, Kazimierz 

Born Mar. 8, 1791, in Królówka, Western Galicia; died Oct. 10, 1835, in Dresden. Polish poet and critic.

From 1822 to 1831, Brodzinski was a professor at the University of Warsaw. In the sentimental idyllic poem Wiestaw (1820), he introduced the peasant into Polish literature and described his life-style. In his literary studies, he wrote articles attempting to reconcile classicism and romanticism and rejecting the extremes of both; he spoke out in defense of national originality in poetry (On Classicism and Romanticism, and On the Spirit of Polish Poetry, 1818).
