Broonzy, (William Lee Conley) “Big Bill” (1893–1958) musician; born in Scott, Miss. He was a versatile guitarist who began his prolific recording career in 1926, was the top-selling male blues singer of the 1930s, and performed at "Spirituals to Swing" at Carnegie Hall in 1938. He conducted several European tours in the 1950s. His autobiography, Big Bill Blues, was published in 1957.
