Brown, Herbert (Charles) (1912– ) organic chemist; born in London, England. He came to the United States in the 1920s and was affiliated with Purdue University (1947–78). He made contributions in the chemistry and synthetic uses of boron derivatives, which led to a wide range of new scientifically and technologically important compounds. He shared the Nobel Prize in chemistry (1979).
