Previous efforts by the force to recruit non-white officers were hit by the Secret Policemen programme in 2003, which exposed racism in the police service filmed at the Bruche National Training Centre in Cheshire.
The new officers go through a two-year probation period after being schooled at the Bruche training centre in Cheshire.
The Bruche Training Centre in Warrington, Cheshire, is closing along with two other centres in Ashford in Kent and Cwmbran in Wales as part of a restructuring of police training.
