Bruevich, Nikolai Grigor’evich 

Born Oct. 31 (Nov. 12), 1896, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in the field of machine theory; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1942), lieutenant general of the engineering and technical service. Member of the CPSU since 1921. Graduated from Moscow State University in 1923 and from the Moscow Aviation Institute in 1930.

Bruevich taught at the N. E. Zhukovskii Air Force Engineering Academy from 1929 to 1961. Between 1943 and 1949 he was the academician-secretary of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1951 he began to work at the Institute of Machine Theory. Bruevich is one of the originators of the accuracy and reliability theory for machines and instruments. He has developed a theory of computers, particularly for the logical analysis and synthesis of digital computers and machine-control problems. Under his direction studies were made of the problems involved in automating the mental work of the field of machine building; the essence of these studies was the creation of more effective research procedures based on the use of computer technology. He has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, six other orders, and also medals.
