Brugsch, Theodor 

Born Oct. 11, 1878, in Graz; died July 11, 1963, in Berlin. German clinician; member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin (1949).

Brugsch received his medical education in Berlin (1903). In 1927 he became director of the university clinic at Halle. Because of the establishment of the fascist regime, Brugsch left the clinic in 1935. In 1945 he was head of the therapeutic clinic at Charité. His principal works were devoted to problems of constitution (the biology of personality), physiology and pathology of metabolism, dietetics, bile formation and secretion, diagnostics of internal diseases, infectious diseases, and cardiology. In 1946, Brugsch founded and became permanent editor of Zeitschrift für die gesamte innere Medizin und ihre Grenzgebiete. He promoted the establishing of German-Soviet ties and was an honorary member of the All-Union Scientific Society of Therapeutists (1956). Brugsch received the National Prize of the German Democratic Republic in 1956.
