Brumidi, Constantino

Brumidi, Constantino (1805–80) painter; born in Rome, Italy. He emigrated to New York City in 1852, escaping from political troubles in Rome. Said to be the first painter of frescoes in America, he decorated many government buildings in Washington, D.C., including Cincinnatus at the Plow (1855) in the Agricultural Committee room, and the frieze in the Rotunda of the Capitol (?1875–80).
