Brush, George (de Forest) (1855–1941) painter; born in Shelbyville, Tenn. He studied with Gérôme in Paris until 1880, then settled in Dublin, N.H. He is remembered for his American Indian works and tender family paintings, such as In the Garden (1906), and A Family Group (1907).
