Bryant, Paul (William) “Bear” (1913–83) football coach; born in Moro Bottoms, Ark. At his retirement after the 1982 season, he was college football's winningest coach, with a 323-85-17 record for 38 years. He produced highly ranked teams at Maryland, Kentucky and Texas A&M before returning to his alma mater, the University of Alabama, in 1958. His Alabama teams won six national championships and won or shared Southeastern Conference titles thirteen times.
