Bryl’, Ianka
(Ivan Antonovich Bryl’). Born July 22 (Aug. 4), 1917. in Odessa. Soviet Byelorussian writer; participant in the partisan struggle in Byelorussia during the Great Patriotic War. Bryl’ is the author of the short stories and novellas Day Is Breaking in Zabolot’e (1950; State Prize of the USSR, 1952), On the Bystrianka (1954), and Confusion (1959). Other works are the novel Birds and Nests (1964), the book of lyrical pieces A Handful of Sunshine (1965), short stories and sketches, and children’s books, including A Little Fragment of a Rainbow (1962). Bryl’s writing is characterized by psychologism, humor, lyricism, and freshness of language. He has been awarded two orders, as well as medals. WORKSZbor tvorau, vols. 1-4.
