Bryson, Reid A. (Allen) (1920– ) climatologist; born in Detroit, Mich. A major in the Air Weather Service (1942–46), he then joined the University of Wisconsin where he started the meteorology department in 1948. In 1963 he founded the university's Center for Climate Research at which he became the senior scientist. He helped found and chaired the university's Interdisciplinary Committee on the Future of Man. He wrote more than 200 papers, some of which combine original poetry with scientific data, and five books, including Climates of Hunger (1977, with J. E. Ross).
