Buchanan's Birthplace State Park Location: In the foothills of the Tuscarora Mountains on the western side of the Cumberland Valley, just south of US 30. Facilities: Picnic area, picnic pavilions (é), restrooms (é). Activities: Fishing. Special Features: Park is the birthplace of James Buchanan, 15th president of the United States and the only Pennsylvanian to occupy the office of president. The site of the cabin in which Buchanan was born is marked by a 25-foot-high stone pyramid, surrounded by tall conifers. A native trout stream, Buck Run, flows through the park.
