Location: 30 miles southeast of Amarillo, Texas. Facilities: Visitor contact station, viewing sites, auto tour route, trails, campsites, picnic areas. Activities: Wildlife watching, hiking, educational programs. Special Features: Buffalo Lake NWR contains some of the best remaining shortgrass prairie in the United States, including 175 acres designated a National Natural Landmark. Habitats: 7,664 acres of shortgrass prairie, brush, woodland, and dry lake bed. Access: Year round.
