Born Nov. 6, 1879, in Pažegei, Larasai Raion; died Dec. 2, 1924, in Königsberg. Lithuanian linguist. Graduated from the University of St. Petersburg. Professor at the universities of Tomsk (1919-20) and Kaunas (after 1922). Specialist in the Baltic and Slavic languages.

BŪga studied the historical grammar and etymology of Lithuanian, problems of loanwords from neighboring languages into Lithuanian, and also problems of Russian and Slavic etymology in general. He made an important contribution to the study of the relationships between the Baltic languages and other Indo-European languages.
