Buinakskii, Ullubii

    0.01 sec.
Buinakskii, Ullubii Daniialovich

Born Aug. 27 (Sept. 8), 1890, in the village of Ullu-Buinak; died Aug. 16, 1919, near Shakhmal station. One of the organizers in the struggle for Soviet power in Dagestan. Member of the Communist Party from 1916. Born into an impoverished gentry family.

Buinakskii studied at the law department of Moscow University. After the February Revolution of 1917 he worked for the Party in the Khamovniki City-Raion of Moscow, and later in Dagestan, where he became head of the Petrovsk-Port (now Makhachkala) revolutionary military committee in November 1917. In April 1918 he was made head of a regional revolutionary military committee in Dagestan. After Soviet power fell temporarily in Dagestan, he went to Astrakhan. In February 1919 he returned to Dagestan, where he participated in the creation of an underground regional committee of the RCP (Bolshevik) and the Dagestan Military Council and assisted in the organization of the insurgent Red Army. On May 13, 1919, based on the information of an agent provocateur, all members of the regional committee headed by Buinakskii were arrested by the counterrevolutionary “Gorskoe (Mountain) Government,” brought before a sharia court-martial, and shot. In honor of Buinakskii, the city of Temir-Khan-Shura was renamed Buinaksk in 1922.
