On western border of KY, south of Louisville; established Dec 13, 1796 from Jefferson and Nelson counties. Name Origin: For Alexander Scott Bullitt (1761-1816), first president of the KY senate (1792-99) and first lieutenant-governor (1800-08).

Area (sq mi): 300.20 (land 299.08; water 1.12). Pop per sq mi: 228.90.
Pop 2005: 68,474. State rank: 11. Pop change: 2000-20005 11.80%; 1990-2000 28.70%. Pop 2000: 61,236 (White 97.70%; Black or African American 0.40%; Hispanic or Latino 0.60%; Asian 0.30%; Other 1.30%). Foreign born: 0.60%. Median age: 34.50.
Income 2000: per capita $18,339; median household $45,106; Pop below poverty level: 7.90%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $23,904-$24,674.
Unemployment 2004: 4.80%. Change from 2000: 0.60%. Median travel time to work: 25.90 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 72.50%.
