State rank: 33. Pop change: 2000-20005 9.80%; 1990-2000 29.80%. Pop 2000: 55,983 (White 67.90%; Black or African American 28.80%; Hispanic or Latino 1.90%; Asian 0.80%; Other 1.70%).
