Bunger Oasis
oasis on the Antarctic coast, in the western portion of Wilkes Land, between 65°58’ and 66°20’ S lat. and 100°28’ and 101°20’E long. It is separated from the sea by a belt of shelf ice. Area, 450 sq km. The relief is low-mountain and hilly; there are many fresh and salt lakes (the deepest is Figurnoe Lake: length, 25 km; depth, to 137 m). The Soviet scientific station Oazis conducted research here from 1956 to 1959. The oasis was discovered in 1947 by the American pilot A. Bunger. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
