Bura
or Huve, a people living along the upper reaches of the Edseram River on both sides of the Nigerian-Cameroon border. The Bura, together with the related peoples of the Margi, Tera (who call themselves Nyamashi), and Bata (who unite the ethnic groups of the Mubi, Kapsiki, Higi, Holma, and others), number about 1 million (according to a 1967 estimate). The Bura language belongs to the Hausa group. The majority of the Bura are Muslims. The chief occupations are agriculture (millet and peanuts) and livestock raising.
