Burgis, William (bûr`jĭs), fl. 1717–31, American engraver and publisher of maps and views, b. London. His name appears as publisher on the views South Prospect of ye Flourishing City of New York (1717; copy, N.Y. Historical Society); The New Dutch Church in New York City; A Prospect of the Colledges in Cambridge in New England (only known copy, Massachusetts Historical Society, Boston); A South East View of the Great Town of Boston; and Plan of Boston in New England (copy, Lib. of Congress, Washington, D.C.).
