BRE (Business Rules Engine) Software that automates policies and procedures within an organization, whether legal, internal or operational. The use of a rules engine (BRE) requires placing the company rules in an external repository that can be easily reviewed rather than buried inside the code of numerous applications. Instead of a program executing internal algorithms, it goes out to the BRE to obtain its business logic.Faster Changes A BRE enables software changes to be implemented much faster than changing source code. It can also ensure that the same rules are applied in all programs on all platforms across departmental lines. In addition, it supports platform changes. New software can be deployed knowing that the same business logic is going to be executed in the new programs. See business rule and BPM. BRE In Britain, abbr. for Building Research Establishment; formerly called the Building Research Station (BRS). Want to thank TFD for its existence?
