Born Apr. 13, 1865, in Havana; died there Aug. 24, 1951. Cuban lawyer and diplomat, professor of international law and honorary dean of the school of juridical sciences of the University of Havana.

Bustamante was the Cuban representative to the Second Peace Conference at the Hague (1907), to the Paris Peace Conference (1919), and to the Sixth Pan-American Conference (1928). His works in the field of international public and international private law include On the Public Order in International Private Law (1893), On the Panama Canal and International Law (1895), On the Principle of Autonomy in International Private Law (1914), On the Permanent Court of International Justice (1923, 1925), and On International Air Law (1945). He is the author of a well-known codification of international private law, The Bustamante Code.
