Buzzards Bay

Buzzards Bay, inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, 30 mi (48 km) long, from 5 to 10 mi (8–16 m) wide, SE Mass., connected with Cape Cod Bay by the Cape Cod Canal and bounded on the SE by the Elizabeth Islands. Its shores are very irregular. The village of Buzzards Bay (1990 pop. 3,250), seat of Cape Cod Canal administration, is in the town of Bourne Bourne, town (1990 pop. 16,064), Barnstable co., SE Mass., crossed by Cape Cod Canal; settled 1627, inc. 1884. Bourne Bridge (1935), across the canal, made the town an entry point to Cape Cod and a resort and commercial center.

Buzzards Bay

Inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, southeastern Massachusetts, U.S. Connected to Cape Cod Bay by the Cape Cod Canal on the northeast and bordered on the southeast by the Elizabeth Islands, it is 30 mi (48 km) long and 5–10 mi (8–16 km) wide. Its coastline is dotted with fishing villages and summer resorts. Buzzards Bay town (pop., 2000: 3,549) is the site of Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Look for either Buzzard's Bay (Espinoza), the Santa Anita Derby winner before his Kentucky Derby fifth-place finish, or Surf Cat (Alex Solis), a 6 1/2-furlong winner in 1:14 2/5 to be the favorite in Saturday's Affirmed Handicap.
Buzzard's Bay came out of a fourth-place finish in a Hollywood Park allowance-level race for trainer Jeff Mullins.
