Byzov, Boris Vasilevich

Byzov, Boris Vasil’evich 

Born July 29 (Aug. 10), 1880; died June 27, 1934, in Leningrad. Soviet chemist; specialist in the chemistry of raw and cured rubber.

After graduating from the University of St. Petersburg in 1903, Byzov directed the laboratory at the Triangle plant. In 1918 he became professor of analytical chemistry at the Second Petrograd Polytechnical Institute and professor of physical chemistry at the Pedagogical Institute. In 1923 he became head of the subdepartment of raw-rubber and cured-rubber technology at the Technological Institute (Leningrad). Byzov was a pioneer in the development of the industrial synthesis of rubber from a base of divinyl obtained from crude oil.
