Cîmpina (kŭm`pēnä), town (1990 pop. 40,473), S central Romania, in Walachia. It is a major petroleum center; chemical and engineering works are also located there. In the foothills of the Transylvanian Alps, the city is also a summer resort. The city is connected by oil pipeline with Ploieşti and with the port of Constanţa on the Black Sea.
Cîmpina a city in the southern part of Rumania, in the district of Prahova. Population, 27,000 (1974). Cîmpina is the center of the oil-drilling region in the valley of the Prahova River. It refines oil and produces equipment for the petroleum industry. There are also woodworking, textile, chemical, and food enterprises. Cîmpina has a steam power plant.
