(CD-ReWritable) The only rewritable CD technology. CD-RW disks look like other CD media, but with close inspection, they have a more polished surface with a very dark blue-gray cast. Similar to a hard disk, files can be added and deleted, and the media must be formatted before use. However, unlike a hard disk platter, which can be rewritten millions of times, CD-RWs have a maximum limit of 1,000 rewrites.

| While CD-R burning has reached 12X speed and may already be faster by the time this column is published, CD-RW rewriting has been stuck at about 4X speed. The TS-L532L drive has write speeds of 8X for DVD+/-R, 4X for DVD +/-RW, 24X for CD-R and 10X for US CD-RW to provide a complete solution for quickly and easily creating and labeling CDs and DVDs. With the burgeoning popularity of both CD-RW and DVD drives, the market is eagerly awaiting an affordable combo drive with performance comparable to today's state-of-the-art individual CD-RW and DVD drives. |
