CDDI

(Copper Distributed Data Interface) A version of FDDI that uses UTP (unshielded twisted pair) wires rather than optical fiber. The technology was developed by Crescendo Communications, Sunnyvale, CA, which was acquired by Cisco in 1993. ANSI's standard for FDDI over UTP is officially TP-PMD (Twisted Pair-Physical Media Dependent).

During his tenure with NetOne Systems, a major value-added distributor, he was responsible for successfully introducing several leading-edge US technologies to Japan (including Cisco/Crescendo's CDDI, Kalpana's Ethernet switch, Synernetics's switch, Netstar's Gigabit router, Agile Networks Automated Virtual LAN), which became the major driving factor for NetOne's successful IPO in 1996.
He noted that the demands of advanced applications such as Fast Ethernet, CDDI, ATM and Gigabit Ethernet require better methods of determining if cabling systems can reliably transfer information.
