Cable Select

Cable Select
A feature of some PCs that allows IDE/ATA hard disks to be numerically identified by the order in which they are attached to the cable. Both the BIOS and the drive must support this feature. Without Cable Select, jumpers on the IDE drive must be set to Master or Slave designations. See IDE.

There is also jumpers on the rear of the hard drive with settings such as master, slave, cable select and such.
At the back, you will find a jumper where you will be able to find various options including slave, master and cable select.
Plug and Play firmware (AT Bus Cable Select for Fast ATA drives and SCSI Plug-and-Play for SCSI drives) simplifies disk drive installation by automatically configuring Quantum Sirocco drives and eliminating the need for any manual jumper settings.
