Cabot, Hugh (1872–1945) surgeon, educator; born at Beverly Farms, Mass. (brother of Richard C. Cabot). Having taken his medical degree at Harvard, he taught there (1910–19), with some time out to serve as a surgeon with the U.S. forces in France. He introduced innovations in medical education, first at the University of Michigan Medical School (1920–30) and then at the Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota Graduate School of Medicine (1930–39). He then returned to Boston and private practice. He was an advocate of prepaid group practice and government underwriting of medical care to ensure equitable distribution.
