Caguas

(kä`gwäs, kä`wäs), city (1990 pop. 133,447), E central Puerto Rico. Largest of Puerto Rico's inland cities, Caguas is an industrial center. Sugar is refined there, and the varied manufacturing includes diamond cutting, tobacco farming, and the production of plastic and leather goods.

a city in eastern Puerto Rico. Population, 95, 000 (1970). A highway links it with the port of San Juan. Caguas is a commercial center of an agricultural region (sugarcane, tobacco, fruit, livestock). There is production of raw sugar, rum, and tobacco items and the processing of hides.
