On southwestern border of KY, southeast of Paducah; established Dec 19, 1821 from Hickman County. Name Origin: For Col. Richard Calloway (?-1780), one of the founders, with Daniel Boone (1734?-1820) of Boonesborough.

Area (sq mi): 410.79 (land 386.25; water 24.53). Pop per sq mi: 90.90.
Pop 2005: 35,122. State rank: 30. Pop change: 2000-20005 2.80%; 1990-2000 11.20%. Pop 2000: 34,177 (White 92.70%; Black or African American 3.60%; Hispanic or Latino 1.40%; Asian 1.30%; Other 1.60%). Foreign born: 2.70%. Median age: 34.50.
