Calvert, Cecilius, 2d Baron Baltimore (sĭsĭl`ēəs), c.1605–75, first proprietor of the colony of Maryland Maryland , one of the Middle Atlantic states of the United States. It is bounded by Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean (E), the District of Columbia (S), Virginia and West Virginia (S, W), and Pennsylvania (N).

Cecilius Calvert never visited the province himself, but governed it by deputies until his death, his last deputy being his only son, Charles Calvert, who succeeded to his title. BibliographySee W.
