On northeastern border of NC, east of Elizabeth City; organized Apr 8, 1777 (prior to statehood) from Pasquotank County. Name Origin: For Charles Pratt (1716-94), Earl of Camden, English jurist and political leader who supported the American colonies before the Revolutionary War.
