a summer camp for tourists traveling in automobiles. It has tents or cottages and parking places either by the tents or in a special area. Campgrounds are run on a self-service basis. Permanent installations usually include an administrative area with a center that rents everyday items, sleeping pavilions with rooms for two to four people, a kitchen, showers, lavatories, and areas for servicing and washing automobiles. A campground may also have a cafeteria, a laundry, areas for sports and dancing, a movie hall, a post office with telephone and telegraph facilities, and stores. In the USSR the size of a campground is based on 100–120 sq m for each tourist.
