Campbell, Helen Stuart (b. Helen Campbell Stuart) (1839–1918) author, reformer; born in Lockport, N.Y. In the 1860s she published fiction, some under the name of Helen Stuart Campbell, which she eventually adopted. She later created widespread public awareness of poverty with The Problem of the Poor (1882), Prisoners of Poverty (1887), and Women Wage-Earners (1893).
