On northeastern border of WY; organized Feb 13, 1911 from Crook and Weston counties. Name Origin: Probably for Gen. John Allen Campbell (1835-80), Civil War officer and first territorial governor of WY (1869-75); or possibly for Robert Campbell, member of an expedition into the Missouri River area in 1822.

    On the central northern border of TN, north of Oak Ridge; organized Sep 11, 1806 from Anderson and Claiborne counties. Name Origin: For George Washington Campbell (1769-1848), U.S. senator from TN (1811-14; 1815-18), U.S. secretary of the treasury (1814), and ambassador to Russia (1818-20). Others claim Arthur Campbell, a negotiator with the Indians.
