(pharmacology)
An alkaloid belonging to the family of drugs called topoisomerase inhibitors which is used as an anticancer drug, it is the first known naturally produced DNA topoisomerase inhibitor and was originally isolated from the Chinese treeCamptothecin acuminate.

A Schizosaccharomyces pombe knockout mutant of Pnk1, the fission yeast ortholog of hPNK, exhibited hypersensitivity to ionizing radiation and camptothecin (a topoisomerase I inhibitor), both of which induce DNA strand breaks (11).
