Canfield, Cass (1897–1986) editor, publisher; born in New York City. Associated with Harper & Brothers from 1924 until his death, he was an active editor who attracted such notable authors as John Gunther, Thornton Wilder, and John F. Kennedy; he became the company's president in 1931 and was chairman of the board from 1945 to 1955.
