Caniff, (Milton) Milt (1907–88) cartoonist; born in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was the creator of the action-adventure newspaper comic strips Dickie Dare (1933–34) and Terry and the Pirates (1934–46), and his Steve Canyon, featuring the adventures of an ex-pilot, made its first appearance in 1947. His work was greatly admired for its realistic detail in the drawings and storyline. |
