Carías Andino, Tiburcio (tēb r`syō kärē`äs ändē`nō), 1876–1969, president of Honduras (1933–49). A strong-handed dictator, his term was twice extended by congress. Some improvements were made in communication and education. After Carías announced his retirement in 1948, presidential elections were held.
