HbCO2, hemoglobin (Hb) compounded with carbon dioxide (C02).
The bond between hemoglobin and carbon dioxide is easily formed and easily broken. The CO2 that evolves in the course of the metabolic activities of tissues diffuses into the capillaries, where part of it combines with Hb (which had previously given off oxygen to the tissues). In the lungs, CO 2 splits off from the carbohemoglobin present in the erythrocytes. About one-third of the CO 2 released through the lungs (most of the CO 2 is trans-ported as carbonates in plasma and erythrocytes) is transportedin the form of carbohemoglobin.
