Carey, James (Barron) (1911–73) labor leader; born in Philadelphia. He helped organize and was first president of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE) (1935–41). At odds with the UE's Communist leaders, he was elected president of the rival International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers (IUE) (1949–65).
