Carlyle Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area Location: West central Illinois, 60 miles east of Saint Louis, near Vandalia at the southwestern tip of Fayette County. Facilities: Boat ramps. Activities: Hunting, trapping (with restrictions), fishing, birdwatching. Special Features: As a major stopping point for migrating ducks and geese, area offers excellent waterfowl hunting opportunities. Fishing is available on more than 2,000 acres of the lake and on the Kaskaskia River.
