Carnosauria 

a superfamily of extinct carnivorous dinosaurs—theropods. The carnosaurs were very large bipedal reptiles. They were the principal terrestrial predators of the Mesozoic: Teratosaurus was the most characteristic of the Trias-sic; Megalosaurus, of the end of the Jurassic and beginning of the Cretaceous; and Tyrannosaurus, of the end of the Cretaceous. The carnosaurs had a high massive skull, powerful daggerlike teeth, a relatively short neck, and small forelimbs, especially in the later forms. There were several families comprising many species and genera. Carnosaur remains are found on all the continents.
