Case, Francis Higbee

Case, Francis Higbee (1896–1962) U.S. representative/senator; born in Everly, Iowa. He settled in South Dakota in 1922 to work as a newspaper editor and then owner. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives (Rep., S.D.; 1937–51) and to the U.S. Senate (1951–62). Primarily interested in domestic issues, such as water conservation and farm surplus programs, he initiated the Renegotiation Act of 1942 which was intended to recover excessive defense contract profits.
