In south-central KY, southwest of Lexington; established Nov 14, 1806 from Lincoln County. Name Origin: For Col. William Casey, a pioneer settler from VA.

Area (sq mi): 445.73 (land 445.61; water 0.12). Pop per sq mi: 36.60.
Pop 2005: 16,290. State rank: 70. Pop change: 2000-20005 5.50%; 1990-2000 8.70%. Pop 2000: 15,447 (White 97.50%; Black or African American 0.30%; Hispanic or Latino 1.30%; Asian 0.10%; Other 1.40%). Foreign born: 1.20%. Median age: 37.80.
Income 2000: per capita $12,867; median household $21,580; Pop below poverty level: 25.50%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $17,422-$18,050.
Unemployment 2004: 5.80%. Change from 2000: -2.90%. Median travel time to work: 29.50 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 45.70%.

Homeowners, renters, non-profit organizations and businesses of all sizes in Casey County and the adjacent counties of Adair, Boyle, Lincoln, Marion, Pulaski, Russell and Taylor in Kentucky are eligible to apply for physical disaster assistance.
The SBA encourages victims of the tornado and severe storms that hit Casey County on October 9, 2009 to return their completed applications, even if they have not settled with their insurance company.
