Name Origin: For either Charles T. Cavileer (1818-1902), an early white settler and public official (with the spelling changed to seem French); or Rene Robert Cavalier, Sieur de la Salle (1643-87), the explorer. Area (sq mi): 1510.14 (land 1488.46; water 21.68). Pop per sq mi: 2.90. Pop 2005: 4,330. State rank: 27. Pop change: 2000-20005 -10.40%; 1990-2000 -20.30%. Pop 2000: 4,831 (White 97.70%; Black or African American 0.10%; Hispanic or Latino 0.60%; Asian 0.10%; Other 1.60%). Foreign born: 2.50%. Median age: 45.20. Income 2000: per capita $15,817; median household $31,868; Pop below poverty level: 11.50%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $30,155-$35,934. Unemployment 2004: 3.70%. Change from 2000: 0.80%.
