Čech, Eduard 

Born June 29, 1893, in Stračov; died Mar. 15, 1960, in Prague. Czech mathematician. Member of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.

Čech’s principal works deal with differential geometry and topology. He made important contributions to the theory of compact spaces and the general theory of homologous invariants. Čech was awarded the State Prize of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in 1951 and 1954.
